The Amazing Apple iPhone

The Apple iPhone is an amazing device that most people have already heard about. That is because it has so many excellent features to offer the consumer. It has also been in the making for approximately four years which has made it one of the most anticipated device manufactured. Finally, it has made its way onto the shelves and into the hands of many happy consumers. Below is what you are missing if you are not familiar with this amazing device.

The first oblivious distinction between the Apple iPhone and other similar devices is the exciting features that make it so much more than a regular cell phone. Consumers were not disappointed when this device hit the market. The Apple iPhone is 4.5 inches long, 2.4 inches wide, 0.46 inches thick and only weighs 4.8 ounces.

The Apple iPhone has all the great features that you expect with any cell phone, including the ability to do conference calling. However, instead of accessing the features by pushing buttons you have all the advantages that a touchscreen has to offer. All functions can be controlled by the touch of a finger.

The Apple iPhone has MMS and SMS text messaging capabilities that is much easier to use than any other. The intelligent keyboard is predicitive, which means it predicts what you are writing to help eliminate mistakes. The Apple iPhone has a very exciting 2 megapixel camera that offers excellent photo management applications that can't be matched by any other cell phone. The touchscreen gives you the ability to email or browse through your photos easily. You can also make your photos compatible with either Mac or PC.

Missing important emails is a thing of the past and the Safari browser capabilities gives you access to Google and Yahoo search. You will love the multi-task functions such as the one that allows you to display maps and then zoom in on any given point that you want a better view of.

If you enjoy listening to music then you will love the fact that the Apple iPhone has been designed with iPod music capabilities. You also get a clear view of all the options on the Apple iPhones 3.5 inch widescreen display, because it is designed with optical-quality glass that is crystal clear. This makes using the touchscreen even easier.

There are three built-in sensors that are very useful. One will shut off the display screen automatically when you place it near your face. Another will adjust the image you are taking a picture of to fit the screen when you change camera modes and the ambient light sensor will adjust the screen brightness to meet the existing light levels.

These sensors make using the Apple iPhone much easier and convenient but it also helps to save on the life of your battery. This amazing iPhone is the biggest news to hit the cell phone industry in a long time. If you haven't taking a good look at it as of yet, you certainly should.

All You Would Ever Want To Know About Bears

Bears can be found throughout the world. They are generally large animals, and are characterized by a plantigrade walk (on their heels, like humans), a large body, short legs, a stub of a tail, small, round ears, and forward facing eyes.

All bears are classified as carnivores, with each species having a variable degree of herbivorous tendency. The panda, for example, is almost exclusively a plant eater. The polar bear is almost entirely a carnivore.

The black bear has managed to be quite prolific and successful as bears go. The eighteen known subspecies can be found throughout the United States and Canada. Estimates of the number of black bears in North America vary, with 750,000 being the most often suggested. In the state of Pennsylvania there are believed to be more than 7000 of the animals scattered across the state.

Despite their name, black bears can actually appear in a variety of colors. There are brown black bears, white black bears, and even the blue glacier bear.

Expert estimates of the weights of the bears also seem to vary widely. Conservative measurements put the average weight of the animals is around 300 pounds. However, the degree of sexual dimorphism exhibited by the species makes accurate accounts difficult. The largest black bear recorded was a male shot in Wisconsin in 1885. The bear was 802 pounds, far heavier than would be expected.

They have a wide an varied diet. They can and will eat nearly anything. Typical of bears, they are fond of honey, and are responsible for thousands of dollars worth of damage to aphiaries each year.

The black bear has claws which are shorter and more curved than those of the grizzly bear. This allows it to have a great agility in climbing trees. Often, a sow will encourage her cubs to tree themselves while there is danger. Black bears have a characteristic way of climbing and descending trees. They mostly use their front claws for climbing and keeping a hold.

The Brown Bear has captured the human consciousness like nearly no other animal can. It presents an image so like ourselves that we often get caught up in the "cuteness" and forget that it is a wild animal that we are dealing with. The brown bear is often seen as the cuddly buffoon of animation, and the "Teddy" bear of children and collectors alike. In reality, the brown bear is a complex and fascinating animal deserving of great respect.

The brown bear distinguishes itself from the other ursines by virtue of its shoulder hump, which is caused by muscles which are used for digging. The color of the animal varies from a light creamy color through to black. It has a dished facial profile and very long claws on the front paws. In addition, has a wider distribution than any of the other bears, and can be found throuhout the world.

The animal has been found in such diverse places as Europe, Japan, North Asia, the western Canadian provinces, and the states of Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska. This diversity does not limit itself to purely geographical happenings, as the bear is also found in a great number of different habitats as well. Brown bears can be found on the plains, in the forests, the tundra, and in subalpine mountain areas.

At one time, the brown bear could be found throughout the North American continent. However, excessive hunting and destruction of the animal's habitat have all but wiped out this majestic creature.

This animal's weight varies widely throughout the course of the year. Some can even double their weigh between emerging from their dens in the Spring and returning in the Fall.

The males can weigh anywhere from 300 to 860 pounds, with the females coming in somewhere between 205 and 455 pounds. The average size of these bears is difficult to pinpoint, because it seems to depend greatly on the food sources available.

The island grizzlies of Alaska (Kodiak and Admiralty) are considered the largest land carnivores in the world, and live on a diet of fish and other rich food. The inland animals are smaller by some 30%.

Of the browns, people tend to be more familiar with the grizzly bear. This animal is well known for it's agressive nature, and it is for this reason that many folks believe it gets its name. Not so! The name "grizzly" comes from the "grizzling" of its fur, which gives it a lighter color at the tips of hairs.

Brown bears reach sexual maturity somewhere between their 4 1/2 to 7th years. Females and males mature at approximately the same time, but males often do not become successful breeders until they are 8-10 years old due to competition with older, stronger males.

Mating between browns takes place from early May to mid-July Implantation of the egg in the uterus, however, does not occur until sometime in Oct.-Nov. 1-4 cubs are born during winter hibernation of the female, with 2 being most common, sometime between January and March.

The cubs will stay with the sow up to 2 1/2 years, meaning that the female may only breed about once every 3 years or so. Given that bears generally live only until they are 20-25 years of age, this does not give very many opportunities to reproduce.

Like most other bears, the brown bears are longers; with the notable exception of females with cubs. During the mating season, males and females may pair up and mate frequently for up to two weeks.

The females require the stimulation of frequent mating before they will ovulate. While fertile, she may mate with several males, leading to cubs in a litter which may not all have the same father. This is one of the factors that makes research into bears more difficult, since paternity is often hard to determine.

The home ranges of bears often overlap. The ranges of males will often intersect those of several females. Bears will not generally attack other bears which wander in to their territories.

They will even congregate peacefully in places where food is plentiful such as garbage dumps and salmon streams. In such places, the big, dominant males will usually get the choice fishing areas.

Brown bears are technically carnivores, but in practice most of their diet consists of plant matter such as sedges, grasses, bulbs, seeds, berries, and roots. They will also eat insects, fish, and small mammals. Some of these bears have even developed predatory practices on large animals, including moose, caribou, and elk.

Bad Eyesight? What Are You Not Willing To See?

Eyestrain is a problem a lot of us live with. We love spending hours in front of our computer screens and often don't even realise how many hours pass by as we are glued to our screens. Worsening eyesight, even at an early age, is an accepted fait accompli. Add to that social conditioning that has instilled in us the belief that after a certain age our eyes can only get worse, even though there is evidence that this need not be the case, our eyes are having a tough job keeping up.

The fact that large parts of the population are happy wearing glasses may be good news for opticians and spectacle manufacturers, but it is a bind for most of us who a getting increasingly dependant on glasses as time goes on. However, this is not the only problem, because worsening eyesight affects our minds too.

Why is this so?

Our eyes are the window to the world, Everything we see is metabulated by the mind at some level. Decreasing vision, which often also mean decreasing peripheral vision means that we take in less of our environment. Our world literally becomes smaller. I am sure you are aware how older people increasingly live in their own world. We contribute this to the mind shutting down, the body getting less agile and so on. Weakening eyesight is a major contributor to decreasing mental faculties.

Fortunately alternative medicine has come a long way to help matters. For example, you can buy eye sprays now which relieve some eye problems. They do not cure incorrect use of your eyes though, nor do they train us to change our habits to help maintain our vision.

Particularly in the office, if you are mainly doing close up work, proper pacing is of the essence. You can train your eyes in the same way you train your body to adopt better behaviour. I know that might sound like hard work, but this need not the case when you use the modern energy techniques, which are available now.

Re-training your eyes could actually be deceptively simple. All that is required is a little persistence and five minutes per day learning energy exercises focusing on your eyes.

I have had poor eyesight all my life, I was born with an eye problem and told that I would never drive a car. Well not only do I drive, I often drive without glasses and spend many hours in front of my computer each day.

When I discovered energy therapy some years ago an entire new world opened up for me. Before working on my patients, I would experiment on myself with new techniques. My eyes were an obvious target. I quickly found out that simply by using a technique called EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique I would get relief from fatigued eyes and I could improve my vision as well.During the course of my experiments I soon learned that my eye problems often got worse when I faced a problem which I deemed too difficult to look at. Facing unresolved problems would make me very stressed and anxious. Using EFT I would focus on my eyes and virtually look the problem in the eye. I soon relaxed and the problems seemed less urgent or severe and my eyesight improved too. Today I use a short EFT eye routine daily which helps me to pace myself and my eyes throughout the day.

Now, what is EFT?

To my mind, it is probably the most effective of the energy techniques out there. EFT is simple, powerful and effective.

When using EFT you focus the mind on a specific problem whilst at the same time tapping with your fingertips on a number of meridians stimulating the body's energy system. Mind focus together with physical tapping is a very fast and effective way to change your vibrational energy almost instantaneously. As you feel your energetic levels change you are blasting away any resistance to changing your state. At this point healing occurs. You also move effortlessly into Problem Solving Mode. You then continue tapping focusing on the issue you wish to resolve. You have tuned into the vibrational frequency of your problem.

EFT is easy and quick to learn. It is versatile and can be used on anything, I encourage you to try it on your eyes and you may be surprised as you solve a few other problems in due course as well, all aiding your wellbeing.

Proven tips to clean your glasses, spectacles and sunglasses

Each of these needs a different approach, and each has many pricey products that you can go out and buy in your local chemists or pharmacy which work well but here are some simple and everyday solutions :

For the lens : The most important thing is to be gentle with any chemicals/detergents or rubbing agents. If the glass is just dirty, and not covered in grease from when you adjusted your glasses with the hand that just managed the ingestion of your cheeseburger then the classic slow but steady breath onto the lens followed swiftly by a gentle massage with a good quality linen or cotton cloth still works well. When you have transferred remnants of your lunch to the lens however, some chemical introduction coupled with temperature takes it to the next level.

For normal glass or plastic lenses, a quick dunk in a pool of warm water with a couple of drops of washing detergent will usually do the trick to break through the grease. Of course if warm water isnt available, a quick spray with a commercial/domestic window cleaner also does well. Be Careful however if you have an anti-reflection coating on your lenses which is common on glasses that have been prescribed for night driving as the surface of these lenses have been treated and washing up liquid or detergents will often smudge the lens even more and just make the situation worse. For this situation, you are better off with an optical spray and a nice clean cloth. The tip here is that it doesnt have to be a glasses spray from the opticians any optical spray (for cameras for example) will work just fine.

For the nosepads : The surface of the nosepads are generally quite resistant to dirt and natural oils. They are usually made form a type of plastic or acetate and so are not prone to reactions with the skin. Dirt can easily get lodged however between the nosepads and their mounts or the frame itself so a warm soak for a couple of hours overnight will soften the residue which can then be gently brushed away with an old soft bristle brush or toothbrush.

For the frame : Many frame materials can form a greenish hue over time due to reactions with the skins natural acidity and in the worst cases can actually corrode. The best resolution to this is to not let the glasses touch the face in the first place. If you can feel the frame touching the skin, then gently adjust the nosepads inwards to raise the glasses from the face. Once the green is on the frame, it is almost impossible to remove Im afraid.

Finally the best way to keep your glasses or spectacles in tip top condition is to regularly rinse them in warm water, shake off most of the water and then dry gently. If you can stop dirt from building up in the first place, things dont get to a crisis point !

Help! I Lost My Health Insurance!

It can literally be one of the scariest places to find yourself - without health insurance coverage. When a simple trip to the emergency room can lead to thousands of dollars in charges, the last thing you need is to not have health insurance. But what options do you have? Graduating from college can be a true rite of passage into adulthood, because this is the time when most health insurance plans drop you from your parents' plan. Even landing a job right after graduation can still mean that you will have to go through a grace period before the company's health insurance kicks in. And if you have left a job for greener pastures, well...don't get sick or injured!

But do I even have options?

Well you probably do have options for health insurance coverage, but they may not be ideal. If you have quit your job, then you will have the option of extending your health insurance benefits for up to 18 months - thanks to COBRA. The only catch is that you will have to pay for those benefits out of your own pocket. Not exactly an easy thing to do without that paycheck rolling in every week.

Is that it? Is that my only hope?

Before you panic, just relax. The solution is short-term health insurance. As the name implies, this solution offers you health insurance options for a limited period of time. Most short-term health insurance benefits are available for 30 to 180 days. Depending on where you live, you may be able to obtain these benefits for up to a year.

And short term health insurance is the same as what I had at work?

Well, if you mean that you have coverage in the event of a hospital visit or sudden illness, then yes. You also can pick your own doctors and hospitals, which is actually an advantage over some health insurance plans offered by employers. But there are definitely coverage limitations on short-term health insurance plans.

So what am I not covered for?

That really is the million dollar question, isn't it? Well, routine medical exams are not covered by a short term health insurance policy. Any kind of preventative care is also out the window with this type of coverage. Plus, you can forget about dental and optical coverage with short-term health insurance. For obvious reasons, this sort of health insurance also does not cover medical costs relating to a pregnancy nor, anything having to do with the childbirth itself.

No offense, by why should I bother with short term health insurance?

Because a simple trip to the emergency room can cost thousands of dollars, and any emergency procedure and hospital stay can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Hey, short- term health insurance is not supposed to be the long-term solution. It is just a way to make sure you are covered while you are not on any employer's health insurance plan. And it can help you avoid going into serious debt, should something happen to you when you are not otherwise covered on a health insurance plan. For that reason alone, it is definitely worth the expense.

Best way to protect your eyes from computer

Computer-related eye strain is a familiar workplace complaint, as many of the employees spend their full shifts in front of a computer without any break. In addition to rooting eye strain that could lead to squinting, dry eyes, and other common discomfort, prolonged periods in front of a computer could as well lead to other physical stresses, if the surroundings is not ergonomically arranged. Always set up your workspace to guard your eyes, along with the rest of the body, as it would keep you improved and more productive. There are a number of steps you could take to look after your eyes so that you would not feel stressed and tired when you arrive home after work.

To begin with, ensure that your workspace is set in a way that would care for your eyes. The ambient light level need be low and dim, with no glare. Keep windows to the side of you, other than straight ahead or behind, to reduce glare. Also alter the brightness of your computer screen to look after your eyes; your screen's lighting need to match the common light level in the room, without being too bright or even too dim.

During the working day, care for your eyes by viewing away from the computer screen to a far-away point just about every 10 minutes. Every half hour you need to take a full break, walking away from the computer to walk and stretch yourself. This would take care for your eyes and your body; stop you from slumping into poor bearing that might lead to back pain and recurring stress injury. Make sure to blink often, and use fake tears or eye drops if your eyes start to feel dry.

You should as well look after your eyes by getting an annual eye exam if you work with computers for full time. During the test, an optometrist could check on the health of your eyes and talk with you about ways to look after your eyes at work. You might, for example, require a special glasses prescription for computer work. An annual eye exam would also catch any serious troubles with your optical health early.

Fords New Concept Vehicle For 2007

The Ford Motor Company, despite having had to go through financial trouble, is still trying to bring the auto world vehicles that may not be production vehicles but could still be one of the most amazing and even interesting ones there are. Just like any other auto maker, Ford also does create its own share of concept vehicles. And perhaps with just the right design, the company may have been able to create a concept vehicle that is a combination of Ford Ranger performance parts and car parts Ford Taurus.

For this year, the Ford Motor Company now comes with a new concept car which Ford followers, car aficionados, and simple consumers can gawk at, make a spectacle of, and eventually be a fan of. This new concept car that has joined the ranks of Ford concept cars like the Ford Aurora, Bronco Wildflower, Cougar, Econoline Apartment, Explorer Drifter, Fiera, FX-Atmos, Ghia, Indigo, Muroc, and Nucleon is actually named the 2007 Ford Mustang Giugiaro concept.

The 2007 Ford Mustang Giugiaro concept has been created with an interior made up of horse hide. It comes with a huge glass roof that would really get your attention. It has got fenders made using carbon fiber. The doors are even quite amazing. Imagine having a vehicle that are electrically operator and crisscross themselves just like scissors would do. Mustang may be the name attributed to this Ford concept car but it sure is not like an ordinary Mustang.

A combination of American power and Italian design and style. That is what the 2007 Ford Mustang Giugiaro concept car really is. After all, this one has got the design straight right out of the brilliant minds of people from Giugaro design works as well as Giogetto Giugaro and Fabrizio Giugaro themselves. According to Giugaro, they made sure that the body panels were as tight as possible so that the vehicle was given a new kind of look. However, despite such, the vehicle also had to go through a widening of the front and back.

Design was not the only thing this vehicle had to go through. The 2007 Mustang Giugiaro concept vehicle also comes with a new 4.6 liter V8 engine that has got an intercooled and twin-screw supercharger.

All Cellulite Solutions

Cellulite is a term that is used to describe fat deposits under the skin that outwardly give the skin a dimpled or orange-peel like appearance. Cellulite is most often seen in women because the fat is arranged in large chambers separated by columns of collagen fibers.
Fibrous strands of tissue connect your skin to deeper tissue layers, creating compartments of ordinary fat cells. When the fat cells increase in size, the compartments bulge and produce the dimpling appearance on your skin.
In overweight people excess fat is stuffed in these compartments causing them to bulge out. On the surface of the skin the bulging provides the dimply appearance of cellulite, especially in areas such as the hips, buttocks or thighs.
Oddly enough, cellulite is predetermined by genetics so even thin women can develop the appearance. Factors such as hormones, pregnancy, and aging may all attribute to the weakening of the collagen fibers to give the cellulite appearance.
Even people diagnosed as the "morbidly obese" are not necessarily genetically pre-disposed to cellulite and may display no symptoms at all.
It is important to note that even though it is unsightly, cellulite is normal for many women and some men as well. The dimpling appears to be less obvious when the subject has thicker skin which further enforces the genetic predisposition. As the body ages, the skin becomes thinner and there is nothing that can be done for that natural aging process.
Cures -& Treatment Options
If our research indicates that cellulite is not recognized as a disease, is there no such thing as a "cure?" We aren't here to make that determination. That is something the reader should pursue for him or herself. Whether there is or is not a "cure". there are various methods of treatment and we will endeavor to review them for you with an eye toward "Conquering Cellulite."

Touring in the Loire Valley of France - The 10 Best Chateaux To Visit

The Loire Valley is a splendid region awarded world heritage listing because of its amazing chateaux.

The kings and queens of France, seduced by the mild climate and the game-filled oak forests built their sumptuous homes here in the Loire Valley. They surrounded themselves with the greatest artists and architects of this era. This is the country of a thousand castles.

The valley is full of not only royal chateaux and renaissance palaces, national museum and large magnificent chateaux, but also medieval castles and fortresses, small fairy tale manors, private chateaux, medieval cities, churches, abbeys, and cathedrals. Many chateaux and stately homes are open to the public: some are state owned, such as Chambord and Blois; others are private, and still lived in. A huge proportion of them run son-et-lumiere spectacles during the high season. Chateau de Chenonceau and Chateau de Chambord are definitely worth a visit and are close to Blois.

Chateau de Chenonceau
Le Chateau des Dames built on a bridge across the river Cher is one of the more beautiful chateaux of the Loire with elegant turrets, arches and stately avenues bordered by plane trees. It's romantic feel is further heightened by the fact that its stylised and symmetrical structure is reflected in the waters of the Cher.

Chenonceau owes much of its design and beauty to four women in particular. It was Catherine de Briconnet who first started the trend and was largely responsible for its early Renaissance style. Catherine then passed the baton to Diane de Poiters (mistress of Henri II) who was responsible for the formal gardens to the left of the chateau as you approach it.

Unfortunately Diane de Poitiers was forced to relinquish ownership of Chenonceau to Catherine de Medici (the embittered wife of Henri II) who offered Chateau de Chaumont in exchange. Not entirely a fair swap! Later the chateau was inherited by Louise de Lorraine, the bereaved wife of Henri III Catherine's favourite son. Louise painted her bedroom ceiling black and white out of respect for her late husband.

Madame Dupin also had a pivotal role in the development of Chenonceau in the 18th century and was responsible for encouraging literary events to be held here. The likes of Rousseau, Voltaire and Montesquieu all spending time here. Today Chenonceau is a profitable business owned by the Menier family who are known as respected chocolatiers.

Chateau du Chaumont is located on the southern bank of the Loire River about twenty minutes west of Blois. It was the first chateau at Chaumont-sur-Loire, Loir-et-Cher, France. Originating in the 11th century, it was built by Eudes II, Count of Blois.

In 1560, the chateau became the property of Catherine de' Medici who entertained numerous astrologers there, including Nostradamus. On the death of her husband, King Henry II, Catherine used her power to take over the much coveted Chateau de Chenonceau from her husband's mistress, Diane de Poitiers. As certain legalities had to be met, Diane was forced to accept the Chateau de Chaumont as payment for her beloved Chenonceau. Diane de Poitiers lived at Chaumont for only a short time when the castle was sold.

The chateau holds an international garden event covering a different theme each year from April to October.

Chateau du Clos Luce
Chateau du Clos Luce is where Leonard de Vinci spent the last fewyears of his life. You can visit his study, salons, kitchen and bedrooms, the chapel and see frescoes painted by his pupils. His paintings and drawings are set out in the park of the chateau with giant models of the most spectacular machines he invented with voice-overs of Leonardo da Vinci and his disciple Melzi.

Le Chateau du Clos Luce: 30 minutes from us, at demeure de Leonard de Vinci,Amboise 37400 Tel: +33(0)2 47 57 00 73 Open: daily except 25 December to 1st January

Chateau de Beauregard
Chateau de Beauregard was mostly built at the same time as Chateau de Cheverny as a hunting lodge for Francois I. It is famous for its Galerie des Portraits which comprises over 327 portraits of Kings and their lovers plus famous dignitaries from 14th to 17th centuries. Take note of the unique flooring that is covered in 17th century porcelain tiles.

Chateau de Beauregard: 6 kilometres south of Blois, Cellettes, 41120 Tel: +33 (0)2 54 70 36 74 Open: Closed Wed in winter months and entirely for the month of January

Chateau de Villandry
Villandry was one of the last of the very big chateaux built around 1536 in the Loire valley during the renaissance. It houses some interesting and very valuable antiques and furnishings but it is probably best known for its Italian Renaissance garden created by Doctor Carvallo. As well as being very ornate and decorative, the gardens produce fruit, vegetables and herbs which are sold locally to raise funds for the maintenance of the chateau.

Chateau de Cheverney
Chateau de Cheverny is undoubtedly the most lavishly furnished of all the Loire Chateaux. Built between 1604 and 1634 little has changed. Its present owner is a direct descendant of the original owner and his 70 hounds or so are still used for regular stag hunting.

Some of the chateau's masterpieces include paintings by old masters, tapestries from Paris and Holland plus Louis XIV's commode and unforgettable grandfather clock. The 1640s interior decoration, consisting of panelling, painted ceilings, and fireplaces, and paintings by Jean Monnier, is among the finest of its kind.

There are two interesting facts pertaining to Cheverny. Firstly, serious Tintin fans will note that Herge based the mythical Moulinsart on Cheverny. If this appeals, check out the Tintin exhibition situated directly opposite the chateau. Secondly, the 18th century Orangerie served as a hiding place for the Mona Lisa during world war 2. From here, you'll be able to take in the majesty of the park and its canals which are open to the public from April to November.

Chateau de Cheverny: 16 kilometres south-east of Blois, Cheverny, 41700 Tel: +33 (0)2 54 79 96 29 Open: Open daily

Chateau Azay le Rideau
The Azay le Rideau Castle, one of the purest creation of the Renaissance, was built on an island of the Indre River, an ideal setting for an architectural jewel. The son-et-lumiere shows held in the park during the summer tell some of the history of the Chateau and are not to be missed if you are there at the right time.

Chateau de Chambord
Chambord is truly royal in its great scale, its grand air, its indifference to common consideration (Henry James). It combined the dream of King Francois I with the imagination of Leonardo de Vinci. The result is a real mathematisation of architecture, a grandiose creation : 440 rooms with 365 fireplaces, a fabulous double staircase, and a unique roof terrace

Chateau de Chambord: 15 minutes south east of Blois, Domaine national de Chambord, Chambord, Tel: +33 (0)2 54 5040 00 Open: Closed on 25th Dec, 1st Jan and 1st May

Chateau Blois
Chateau Blois is almost like 4 separate chateaux rolled into one - so diverse are the architectural styles at play here. The Medieval heart is centred around the Salle des Etats Generaux which is where the court and council were based. Flamboyant Gothic flair is evident in the Louis XII wing whereas Renaissance architecture is the dominant style in the Francois 1 wing.

It is in the Francois 1 wing that you'll find Catherine de Medici's private rooms complete with array of poisons. This was also the spot where the Duc de Guise was brutally murdered in 1588 after he was thought to be planning a Catholic uprising against Henri III. Apparently, it was Henri who carried out the deed himself only to be killed himself a year later by a monk.

Lastly, the Gaston d'Orleans wing will satisfy any cravings for Classical architecture. Evenings are a particularly good time to visit Blois especially if you book to see the 'son et lumiere' spectacles that recount the chateau's turbulent past.

Chateau de Blois: Place du Chateau, Blois, 41000 Tel: +33 (0)2 54 90 33 33 Open: Closed on 25th Dec and 1st Jan

How Would You Like to Watch the Sensational Migration of Wildebeests?

The wildebeest is a social animal, Seen in the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and the Serengeti Game Reserve in Tanzania Grazing with other herbivorous like the Zebra, Gazelle, Oryx, and others. The wildebeest stick together in tens of thousands often moving in the same direction as they constantly forage for pasture and water, creating a sensational picture that is beautiful to behold. Unlike the Big Five or the big cats wildebeests require a constant supply of water and would move in droves searching for these precious commodities. Its not uncommon though to see these animals grazing in smaller numbers where pasture and water is in ambudance.

The wildebeest grows to a massively built animal, weighing a maximum weight of 230 kiograms for the female and 300 kiograms for the male and reaching at a maximum height of 1.5 meters for both female and male. You will not fail to notice that the males usually take control of the herd as it grazes on the expansive Savanna grassland that is the Masai Mara and the Serengeti. The male usually grazes along the periphery of the herd giving the a false sense of security from their natural enemies, the lions.

Its the migration of wildebeests that has caught the attention of the world that everybody craves to see this phenomenon in reality. This spectacular event happens at the Rhino Bridge, commonly known as Kiboko widebeest crossing site. The widebeest cross the Mara river into the adjacent olpunyaia swamp on their way to the Serengeti Game Reserve and Later back to the Olorukoti plains and the Musiara swamps. This phenomenonal event happens in August and September when millions of these wildebeest cross the Mara river from the Serengeti Game reserve to the Masai Mara. Then it happens again in october and November, This time the migration of wildebeests takes them back south to the Serengeti Game Park.

It is actually the reason why thousands of tourists are jetting into the country daily From all over the world. At any one time during the migration of wildebeest, you might be forgiven if you actually thought that the number of wildebeests crosing the Mara River is the same as the number of tourists that visit this Game reserve at these times. It was only recently declared the 7th Wonder of the World. This Reserve is a perfect example of Savanah grassland of the African plateau. It covers 1,500 square kilometers of grassland and shrubs and is home to the Maasai, and a variety of wild animals scattered strategically within the reserve.

Getting to the Masai Mara at these times to experience the spectacle that is the migration of wildbeest can be tricky sometimes. The hotels in the Masai Mara Game Reserve are aways fully book. Surprisingly also, other lodges and camping sites in kenya get their feet wet. Its advisable to make an early booking with one of the many vacation and tour companies in Nairobi like the Bushtroop Safaris, early enough to avoid frustrations

The Best in Bird Watching Binoculars

Trying to read and interpret all of the jargon about various bird watching binoculars can be a little difficult if you are new to it. You will probably find that all of the manufacturers think their product is the best, and that nothing else is worth looking at.

If you are like most consumers, you want a place to go where you can find an honest opinion and some accurate information. If you do not live in an area where you can just walk into a specialty optics store and ask, do not worry, there are some resources available.

There are several such guides available to those who are in market for bird watching binoculars. Bird Watchers Digest publishes a review of the latest models and improvements every year. Additionally, a number of Web sites publish product reviews on a regular basis.

Some sites even have entire sections devoted specifically to binocular reviews and evaluation. Check out BirdWatching site for one good example of Web based product reviews. Experienced birders offer their honest opinions about the products that they use on a regular basis and what they did and did not like about each one.

When researching bird watching binoculars, keep in mind several things that may affect which style will work best for you. If you wear glasses, then some binoculars may not work well for you. Do you wish to use the binoculars to focus on small things that may be relatively close?

There are models like the Pentax Papillo, which will work very well when trying to zoom in on things like butterflies. When considering any binocular, a bird watcher needs to give careful thought to how much magnification power they need. While many are under the impression that they need the most powerful binocular available to enjoy watching birds, often times the most powerful optical tools can be very difficult to keep focused and to hold steady enough to get a clear image.

Some people in the market for bird watching binoculars pay no attention to price and do not consider cost to be of any importance. For most people, cost does play a large role in their decision.

Do not get frustrated if at first all you see are slick catalogue pages full of extravagantly prices binoculars. You can, and will, find equipment from many reliable well-known manufacturers that is well made and quite affordable for the average bird watcher.

To ensure that you are pleased with your purchase, make sure that you do the research. As shown here, there are plenty of resources available outside of actually walking into a store. Bird watching binoculars will be your primary piece of equipment as you begin your bird watching hobby.

Automotive Navigation System Making Driving Less Stressful

Driving has become a lot easier with the introduction of automotive navigation system. Now you do not have to worry while you drive because this system makes sure that you reach your desired destination without wandering aimlessly. It was first designed by Honda in 1983 but an accelerometer was used along with to judge locations as GPS was not available then. The commonly used navigation systems today are Garmin Street Pilot, Navman iCN Series, Etak, Gizmondo, Hertz Neverlost, Nextel TeleNav, Tom Tom and Pioneer.

It is a navigation system which is used especially in automobiles and help in determining their position with the help of signals from satellites. Automotive navigation system uses the technology on GPS, though it differs from other GPS systems in using position data to locate the vehicle on the units map database.

The essential components of a navigation system are top view for the map with the map rotating like the automobile (the most important component), next curves birds eye-view, to ensure your safety; linear distance gauge, and distance numbers.

The navigation system uses a road data base that contains all the names and addresses of the particular area encoded as geographical coordinates. The information gets updated via the internet as one move from one place to another. Basically it contains a vector map of the area with the help of which it becomes easy to locate someone just by their name or address.

The database used in this system can be stored easily on a magnetic media like hard disk, on a read only memory which comes programmed form the factory or an optical media like CD or DVD. Mostly base map is stored permanently in the ROM and it is accordingly used to extract detailed information about the region in which the user is interested. A combination of all these can also be used.

The first GPS based automotive navigation system was claimed to be developed by Pioneer in 1990.This navigation system helps in finding the location of the vehicle, but in addition to that they offer several other advantages like they give information regarding nearby restaurants, gas stations or cash machine. They can be used to view your favorite TV show or DVD since they use LCD screens. SMS messaging and hands free talking is also possible on some of the advanced systems. These systems also keep one updated about the traffic jams and suggest alternative routes to avoid these jams.

The base maps are created by map vendors like Tele Atlas and NAVTEQ in a standard format GDF. But later they are changed in an optimized format by the electronics manufacturer, which are then used in the navigation system. The format used is uniformly proprietary; as there is no standard for satellite navigation maps.

The automotive navigation system provides excellent services and that is the reason that its demand is increasing all over the world.

Can Or Should Your Marriage Be Saved?

If you have been married for any length of time, you understand that not everything always works out as smoothly as your undying love initially indicated.

There are often bumps in the road to marital bliss, even in the best relationships. This is a normal growth and learning process and if handled with love and care actually further cements the marriage.

But what if you just can't take it anymore. It's over, you've had enough. Let me outta here. I was better off alone.

Is your marriage really doomed?

You had better spend a little time evaluating the reality of your situation.

Often, if not nearly always, the whole problem is one of miscommunication. I'm sure you've heard that before, however, I am talking about miscommunication with yourself.

What? Yes Yourself.

How have you communicated the reality to yourself.

You see initially, you saw everything through rose colored spectacles. You fell in love, and that's why you got married. Your partner could do nothing wrong everything was cute, precious, special, no matter how strange it might have seemed to other people.

Now, when some of your expectations aren't being met, theses same spectacles have turned a dark shade of black. Everything is stupid, uncaring, silly, negligent etc. the same actions that were cute, are now stupid.

Again it is a matter of perception.

What makes the issue worse, is that the same thing has happened to your mate.

Where as before, all was rose colored from both sides, a condition which reinforced itself by the mutual agreement, this has now worked exactly the same way in the opposite direction, pushing you further apart.

Both are looking for the negatives in each other, both will find them. The positives have been discarded as average, the negatives raised to a higher, more important level.

This can only lead to a break to stop the feelings of disappointment.

If this is the case, so be it, but, and this is a huge but, what if your perception was not quite as accurate as you thought.

What, heaven forbid, you might actually be mistaken. I know this is an absurd notion to consider at this point, but just for the sake of argument, what if you just worked with that new perception for a while. Could, would this make a difference? I daresay yes.

This is where counseling comes in. A skilled counselor, will try to establish a sense of reality back into the relationship and level the playing field.

Only when you can both see clearly again, should a decision for the future be made.

If at all possible, a separation should be avoided. Here's why.

The costs of a divorce are huge. I am not merely talking monetary terms here either. The actual ramifications of divorce are a topic for another time though.

For now, to be fair to everyone, especially yourself, you owe it to the relationship to get into a clear thinking state of mind, before making any potentially life altering decisions.

Remember, there was a reason you got together. Can this be resurrected, modified to adapt to changing conditions? Could the love be rekindled?

Can the Marriage be saved.

Try whatever you are able to not become another statistic.

Invisible Energy, Visible Results

I have a transparent kettle and a childlike fascination for watching the water boil. It never ceases to amaze me. First, there is an almost invisible stirring, a grumbling that grows to a roar and seems to come from deep, down inside somewhere.

And when enough of that invisible, inner energy has built up, it bursts forth into a crescendo of dancing, bouncy, lively bubbles. Like snow flakes, no bubble is the same, no pattern they form is alike and before you know it, the miniature spectacle is over and transformed into something completely different...

A cup of hot, delicious tea that warms my body and soul at this dark, cold time of year.

And so it is with everything we see and experience in life. For a moment something may seem important, spectacular and over-powering and then, each event fades and makes way for something else. Never ending change, transition, growth.

The energy underlying the bubbly dance of the hot water is like life - invisible and to me, totally incomprehensible. I won't even begin to understand how something can travel through a plastic tube with wires in it and then be transformed into heat or sound or images which in turn can be changed into delicious food, musical delight or a mind boggling, life changing story on a screen.

I don't question the method, nor do I need to understand the 'why'. I just know that it does and I'm grateful for what it gives me. Isn't it funny, how most of us find the 'techy' kind of ignorance quite easy to accept, yet when it comes to the subtle energies within our own bodies, we deny what we can't explain, we question and doubt and thus deprive ourselves of the enjoyment of the visible results, just because we can't makes sense of what goes on beneath the surface.

This doesn't mean that we should blindly accept anything and everything that we are presented with. After all, it's curiosity, questioning and probing that underlie all progress. What I'm suggesting is that we don't succumb to the urge of 'explaining away' everything we can't properly define and understand.

In our subtle energy courses, we share techniques that frequently enable participants to overcome fears, phobias and other issues within minutes. Sometimes, the effect is so fast and astonishing that the only way people seem to be able to deal with 'losing' something they have been suffering from for years, is to explain it away. They look for other reasons why the bubbles dance and in the process give away the power that is generated from deep within themselves.

We are so used to having to understand everything rationally, that we forget that the logical, conscious side of us can only take in about 1 billionth (yes, no typo here!) of reality at any given time. How could we ever expect to fully understand anything? How will we know that we aren't just living one great big illusion? And the most important question of all... Does it really matter?

No, it doesn't - the constant need to use our external senses to explain everything, prevents us from tapping into the vast resources of our unconscious mind. My suggestion is, lets follow Einstein's example and open up to something bigger, better and higher than our limited logical capacity can conceive - and - as the saying goes, 'go with the flow'.

If you allow yourself to be guided by the invisible energies within yourself, before you know it, you will feel the flow of Chi, Prana or Life Energy within you and understand what is good for you and what you need to heal and grow and achieve happiness and inner peace.

With a childlike sense of curiosity you can enjoy the visible dance of the bubbles whilst the invisible energy brings about the results.

Bastille Day in Paris

The day is a celebration of independence and liberty. Cities all over France will be celebrating the spirit of freedom and democracy but the major events will be held in the Capital, Paris, making it a great time to plan your visit and take part in the celebrations.

Bastile Day marks the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille in 1789, a prison which held political rebels who were considered by King Louis 16th to be unlawfully outspoken and troublesome.

At the time, France was ruled by a wealthy King and Queen who did nothing to improve the life of the poor, many of whom were starving on the streets. The middle class was growing and becoming more and more resentful of the life of luxury their leader was living, thanks to the heavy taxes imposed by the King, while France suffered massive foreign debt, and an unstable financial future.

Through their writings and public assemblies, these people called for rejection of the powerful monarchy and for the establishment of a free and democratic society, with leaders elected by the people. Anyone seen to be challenging the authority of the King was arrested and imprisoned in the Bastille. A large cache of weapons was also stored at the prison, making it the perfect symbol of the Kings power and tyranny.

On the 14th July, 1789, a public demonstration protesting the incarceration of these prisoners and rejecting the rule of the king gathered momentum outside the prison walls. At least 1,000 citizens managed to overpower the guards and take hold of the building, burning it to the ground. 98 attackers were killed, as well as one of the guards defending the prison. It was the start of the French Revolution. As the middle class took to the streets, building barricades and fighting the royal army who were struggling to gain control, the King fled with his wife for Versailles, relinquishing his control of the nation.

Soon after this event, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was drafted, outlining man's equal liberties, the rights to elect their own representatives, reject oppression and communicate freely, without fear of prosecution. The country was later declared a republic for the first time in 1792.

A year after the storming of the Bastille, a festival was held to mark the anniversary of its destruction, and the French have continued to celebrate the moment since then. In 1880, Bastille Day was declared an official national holiday under the motto of 'liberty, equality and fraternity', the values which are represented on the French flag- le Tricolour.

Although France was not free continuously from that moment on, it was the values that these men were fighting for that remains symbolic for the people of France, even to this day. Truly a cause for celebration!

Bastille Day, or Fete National as it is known to the French is celebrated over two days. Traditionally, the fire stations in Paris open their doors to the public between 9pm on the 13th July and 4am on the 14th, for music and dancing, spilling out onto the streets for the public to enjoy. A list is published of those stations which will be open in the weeks leading up to the event in local papers and a small donations is usually collected on entry. All the money raised goes to the Paris Fire Brigade Association.

The Town Hall of Paris usually hosts an evening of dancing in the Bastille Square, the original site of the prison. Each year a theme is chosen, reflecting one of the many nationalities of which France has citizens today. In 2007, the theme was African Music and the square was alive with bongo drums and percussion instruments late into the night.

On the 14th at about 10: 30am a grand parade is held on the Champs Elyses from Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde. People line the streets to watch the parade led by the president of France, followed by police cadets, infantry and motorised troops of the military. Military jets will accompany the parade from the air, streaming red, blue and white to represent the colours of the flag.

The parade lasts about 2 hours and is a great spectacle to enjoy, but if large crowds and marching bands is not your thing, a great alternative is a visit to the Lourve Museum, which is open free to the public on this day. It's an excellent chance to enjoy some of the worlds greatest art in the worlds most famous art museum.

Later in the afternoon, the Hippodrome de Longchamp is preparing for the only night of the year where horse racing is allowed after dark. The gates open at about 4pm and the races start by 5pm. The main race is held at 8pm followed by dancing long into the night. For children, pony rides, a barbecue and fair with rides is in full swing throughout the evening. A great option for families.

The most popular event of the day however is usually the fireworks display which takes place that evening. The main show is launched from from the Eiffle Tower but smaller displays are usually held around other parts of Paris, followed by more parties and clubs until the early hours of the morning.

Bastille day is the one day in the year where just about everyone in Paris is free from work and school, to celebrate the democratic foundation of their country, in a most spectacular way. Everyone should enjoy at least one Bastille day in Paris

The First Great PR Man

PT Barnum (born Phineas Taylor Barnum) is best known for being a great showman who staged elaborate extravaganzas through his world-famous Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, a top attraction during the latter-1800s. For many of today's PR professionals, he is also the first great PR man.

Barnum first made it to the public eye in 1835 when he staged exhibits showcasing a blind and near-paralyzed African-American woman named Joice Heth whom he claimed was the nurse of George Washington and was over 160 years old. Heth died in 1836 and was declared to be 70 years old. Barnum's hoax was revealed, but this hardly deterred him from a lifetime of similar initiatives.

Starting in 1841, Barnum staged elaborate spectacles in New York that no one had ever seen before, featuring the likes of celebrated midget General Tom Thumb, a Fiji mermaid, the original Siamese twins, Chang and Eng Bunker and a Native American dancer named Do-Hum-Me. In 1871, Barnum took his show on the road, first in America and later around the world with the Barnum & Bailey Circus, whose main attraction was Jumbo, an African elephant. At that point, many considered him the greatest showman of all time.

Barnum's exploits illustrate a fine example of what has become a fundamental belief in today's public relations: "perception" is the key. "It's not what they know, it's what they believe," is how the owner of one New York firm put it recently. Make them believe they are listening to the greatest proposal of all time, and you will have them signing on the dotted line. Make them believe that your product will give them exactly what it is they want and they will scamper to clear out your shelves.

But there is a big difference between PT Barnum and today's professional executives engaged in the PR business: a sense of responsibility in the exercise of his craft. Barnum was the absolute showman, but many of his attractions were mere hoax. Today, no legitimate businessman will have any use for a PR man without credibility, because who would believe someone like that? The savvy PR man knows you can stretch the truth a little and bend it a bit, but you cannot afford to lie.

Public Relations employs several communications tools to make clients perceived a certain way. They issue press releases announcing the client's newest products, latest awards and never-before-seen innovations. They court esteemed members of the press to consider their client in a positive light and to say so in their newspaper columns, TV shows or talk radio programs. On behalf of their clients, they create and support events that portray a carefully-studied image, much like PT Barnum during his heyday. And like Barnum, the try to go about their business with flair.

And although they may admire PT Barnum for his showmanship, they know that you can only go so far in the PR business if showmanship is all you have to offer.

You Look Better When You See Better

What makes a person attractive and good looking? To a great extent, good looks are simply a matter of good health and vitality. Pure complexion and full, shiny hair are considered prerequisites for female beauty. Just as important is certainly a persons facial expression, especially around the eyes. People with friendly, bright eyes are more attractive than people with tense or hostile eyes.

There happens to be a method that improves your looks and your eyesight at the same time. It was developed by an American Eye doctor, William Bates, and it has helped millions over the years. Simple exercises relax the eyes and bring out a bright-eyed, harmonious attitude and appearance. The whole mind/body functions more joyously and efficiently when eyes relax, and the vision is improved.

When you learn the art of seeing, you feel better and you look better. You are more at ease with human nature, with your own nature and in your relationships. The lines and wrinkles of frustration begin to fade from your face. You move about with more ease and poise because your movements originate from your gravity center in the pelvis, not nervously from the shoulders. Your eyes are lively and mobile, they joyously explore the world. You avoid the habit of staring that is a symptom of poor vision.

Although opticians and the optical industry try to convince us that glasses glamorous and lenses are trendy, we know deep down that we look better and healthier without them. Glasses not only have a disfiguring effect, they also create facial tension and mental discomfort. Last not least, all glasses and lenses weaken your eyes. Even modern eye surgery only corrects the symptoms, and long term problems tend to arise later.

The methods developed by Dr. Bates work with most visual defects, including near sightedness (myopia), far sightedness, astigmatism, glaucoma and cataract.

Man-Made Diamonds

Renewed interest has spawned in the synthetic diamond debate, in part due to new color technology by the Gemesis Corporation. The company, located in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, has been creating cultured diamonds for over a decade.

Gemesis has always specialized in yellow diamonds simply because that is what the machines make, influenced somewhat by the nitrogen in the air. Recently though, the company has been experimenting with the creation of pink and blue diamondshighly coveted and extremely rare, naturally occurring stones.

If this takes off, not only will Gemesis be able to provide an abundance of color, but it would also bring economy to the world of diamond buying, with greatly reduced prices.

It is no wonder De Beers is sweating bullets these days. They have a lot to lose if machine-grown gems become a standard in the industry. Typically these stones sell for about one-third of what their naturally produced counterparts would.

Though it hasnt been the easiest ride for Gemesis and other synthetic diamond makers, there have been steady gains made. In January, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) started accepting laboratory-grown diamonds for commercial grading.

Gemesis Chief Executive Steven Lux is hopeful. By the end of next year, Gemesis expects to be making enough pinks to bring them out commercially. By 2009, Gemesis will have commercial quantities of blues, Lux said. There are also plans to create different colors in the future, including the traditional white or colorless diamond.

De Beers, by far has been the biggest defender in this cultured vs. natural diamonds debate. De Beers spokeswoman Lynette Gould appeared confident when discussing the future of the diamond industry, though. If synthetics do enter the jewelry market we believe that over time, production costs will fall, and synthetics will probably occupy a similar position in the marketplace to Cubic Zirconia, Moissanite, and other such materials, wrote Gould.

To counter this notion that Gemesis real diamonds are even remotely similar to cubics, Gemesis recently hired Joan Parker, a former De Beers spokeswoman and marketing executive. Gemesis does not even approve of the term synthetic because of the fact that its stones are physically, optically, and chemically real diamonds.

The only difference is one is made by nature, and one is made by man. Pick your poisonor your treasure.

Optical or Digital Zoom? The Choice is Clear

What is zoom?
Sometimes when you take a photo you need to focus on one area in the picture frame. For example when you take a portrait photo you want to make sure the objects face fills the photo frame while when you take a group photo you want to make sure everybody is in the photo frame.
In to focus on that one area in the photo frame you can either physically move closer to the objects or use the cameras zoom feature. When using the zoom feature the camera (mechanically when applying an optical zoon or electronically when applying a digital zoom) enlarges that area to fit the full picture frame.
There are two types of zoom optical and digital (in older film cameras the only zoom option was optical). We will try to explain the differences between the two.
How does optical zoon work?
Optical zoom works by physically moving the cameras lenses and changing the focal length. By changing the focal length you can make objects appear bigger and fit the full photo frame.
When satisfied with the zoom position you can shoot the photo by simply applying the shutter button.
How does digital zoom work?
With digital zoom you actually use built-in software in the camera to define a portion of the photo which you are interested in. Once chosen the software crops the rest of the photo and enlarges the area you chose to fit the complete photo frame.
The process of enlarging the zoomed area is also known as extrapolation. The camera software needs to calculate new values for the pixels that were cropped in order to result in a full frame photo. The downside of this digital process is that the enlarged photo quality is lower than the original photo taken.
It is easy to understand the quality loss using an example. Lets assume that you have a 2MP (2 megapixels) camera. You point the camera and decide that you want to zoom in 2X. You run the digital zoom software and choose a 2X zoom. To accomplish this zoom the camera crops half of the photo and enlarges the other half to create a 2X zoom effect. In the process a 1MP area is discarded (the half that is cropped). The other 1MP area is enlarged in a process that copies every pixel once to generate a 2MP photo. Although the new photo seems to include 2MP it really includes only 1MP of information that was copied once. The result is a photo with a quality equivalent to a 1MP photo.
If you have used a 4X digital zoom in this example the result would have been a photo with an equivalent quality of a 0.5MP camera (the zoom area is 1/4 of the frame 3/4 of the frame would be discarded and the rest 1/4 would be copied three times to fill the frame).
Digital zoom significantly reduces the quality of the photo. If your camera does not include digital zoom you can always shoot the photo without zooming and then use a PC photo editing software to crop a portion of it and enlarge the rest. In fact using PC software is always the preferred method to built-in digital zoom since it allows you to try different zoom sizes, different zoom areas and different zoom algorithms while not losing the original photo.
So which one is better?
Optical zoom is superior to digital zoom. In fact from a practical point of view digital zoom should not be considered zoom at all. It is always better to apply digital zoom on a PC at a later time rather then when taking the photo using the cameras built-in digital zoom. When using a PC different sizes can be used and different zoom algorithms that can result in better qualities.
Know your camera's zoom
Some manufacturers claim the maximum zoom figure their cameras support without specifying if it is optical or digital zoom. This information is confusing as many consumers do not understand the difference between the two. For example if a camera supports a 5X optical zoom and 10X digital zoom advertising the camera as a 10X zoom camera is confusing 10X digital zoom can be done with any camera using simple PC software.
When buying a camera always make sure that you know what the optical zoom figure is and that it meets your needs. Ignore the digital zoom figure as it does not mean much and can not compensate for a camera with poor optical zoom.

Cheap blank DVD RW, DVD+R

A DVD-RW is a rewritable optical disc with a storage capacity of 4.7 GB. This rewritable DVD format was introduced in 1997 but it saw major technological changes in 2001. In 2001 this cheap blank DVD RW was fully revised and its capacity was increased from 2.8 GB to 4.7 GB.
Frequently used in daily usage, this cheap DVD RW can be rewritten about 1,000 times, in comparison with the CD-RW standard. DVD RW is basically used for storing volatile data such as backups or collections of files. Despite being so advantageous they are not used for home DVD video recorders. Because originally this cheap blank DVD RW was designed to store data and volatile information.
Now manufacturers have finally started releasing DVD recorders using this format. DVD RW disc is playable in three quarters of todays DVD players. And this rewritable DVD RW is significantly cheaper than other rewritable counterparts and also offers high quality storage of data.
However, DVD RW is more like CD-RW, this means to change data, one must erase the whole disc and start over again. DVD RW is a recordable and rewritable device that meets the expanded demands of personal and professional video as well as still uncharted applications.
This cheap blank DVD RW
has a special phase changing metal alloy. This alloy can be switched back and forth between a crystalline phase and an unstructured phase. This results in changing the reflectivity, depending on the power of the laser beam. Thus data can be written, erased and re-written. This is the reason why people prefer this DVD format as it can be used again and again.
People prefer to buy this cheap blank DVD RW

Backyard Bird Watching Is A Breeze

Many folk find that backyard bird watching is a great way to get introduced to the activity. It is an inexpensive way to begin learning to identify species. The birds that you observe in the backyard can also provide valuable experience in note keeping, as you track the birds that come and go. Regardless of your experience level, setting up a backyard theater for observation can be a rewarding experience.

You will want to do some research on what types of feeders are best for the birds that you are hoping to attract. Several styles meet the needs of many species. Some birds, however, require a specific type of feeder. You may find it best to construct your backyard bird watching area in a way that allows you to utilize several different feeders. Make sure you research how far away from each other the feeders should be.

Another decision that you will have to make as you are beginning your hobby of backyard bird watching is what to feed them. There is a wide range of feed available. Just like the feeders, the food that you select should depend in large part on what type of birds you are hoping to attract and where you live.

Some of the more common types of bird feed are sunflower seeds, cracked corn, and thistle. Often found in a mix, pour this type of seed into a hopper type feeder to meet the needs of several different species at one backyard bird watching station. If you hope to attract some of the more fickle species, like bluebirds, then you will need to do some research on what type of fruit or nuts make up the diet of the particular bluebirds in your area.

When you are setting up your area for backyard bird watching, you should ensure that you have good view of the feeders from the area that you anticipate using for observation. If you have any low hanging branches that may block your view, cut them away before you begin your project. If you wait until you already have a contingent of hungry customers to do so, the sudden change in environment may disrupt the feeding and behavior patterns that they have established.

Now that you are ready to begin your observations, you will find that you need some kind of magnifying device in order to see the birds better. A basic pair of binoculars is usually sufficient for beginners, though you may find it better to mount a spotting scope near a bird watching picture window in your home. These optical devices will greatly increase your ability to identify birds and to get to them by their distinct markings and behaviors.

Wacky World News Stories from 2006

Here are a collection of some of the bizarre and strange stories over recent times.

Good Samaritan arrested for drunk driving

A German man was arrested for drunk driving after he mistook a police spot check for a breakdown and stopped to help. Officers inspecting a car by the roadside suspected the 37-year-old passing motorist was under the influence of alcohol when he lurched from his vehicle to offer assistance, reports Reuters.
"Obviously his optical assessment of the situation as he drove past was that this was a vehicle breakdown," the police said in a statement. The man was arrested and banned from driving.

Shanghai goes the extra smile

Eager to put on its best face for foreign guests ahead of the 2010 World Expo, Shanghai is sending teams of "smiling volunteers" onto the streets to teach stony-faced citizens to beam at strangers. Forty university students have signed up to smile at people in public places, after a survey showed that only 2 percent of Chinese people smile at strangers, reports Reuters.

Team-leader Xu Xiaohong said: "We ask all the members to practise smiling at home. "We smile at the mirror to determine whether our smiles are acceptable. We not only smile with our mouths but also with our eyes."

Attempts to generate warmth among strangers in China have had mixed success. In October, volunteers offering "free hugs" to people in a busy shopping street in Beijing were detained by police for questioning.

Giant mirror takes village out of darkness

A village in the shadow of the Italian Alps has installed a giant mirror on a mountainside to reflect sunshine into its main square. Viganella, in the narrow Antrona valley, north of Turin, saw no sun for three months of the year before the project, reports CBC News.

The 48 sq metre steel sheet is controlled by computers to follow the path of the sun and reflect its rays down into the village square for at least six hours a day. Viganella, with a population of only 197, formerly suffered from a complete lack of direct sun from November 11 to February 2. Mayor Pierfranco Midali presented the project for approval in January of this year to help lift his community out of darkness, and the 70,000 pound cost was met by local government and a private bank.

999 'for emergencies only' say police

Devon and Cornwall Police have recently revealed some of the time-wasting 999 calls they have received. A woman dialled 999 when she realised her trousers didn't fit. Another woman rang the emergency services to report a pigeon in her garden, while another caller asked for a pizza to be delivered. Other calls included complaints of a phone battery running out, builders making too much noise and a report of a large owl sitting on a telegraph pole.

According to the Sun, Chief Inspector Nick Jarrold said: "There is a funny side, but I don't know what goes through their heads when they dial 999 to ask about changing their trousers. "An emergency call is when it is a life-or-death situation, people are injured or the baddies are still at the scene."
NE manhunt sparked by 'scary noise'

Two men who sparked a manhunt when their tent was found empty have admitted abandoning their camp after hearing a "scary" noise. About 50 volunteers joined the search when the empty tent was found in remote Harwood Forest, near Rothbury, Northumberland, on 5 December. Sniffer dogs and a helicopter with a thermal imaging camera were also used, according to the BBC.

Police had been concerned after finding a jacket and enough food for four days inside the tent. When they were traced on Saturday, the men confessed to driving away in a panic after hearing the noise. The abandoned campsite equipment has now been returned to the men, who do not wish to be named.

Santa vs shoplifters

A German Santa turned crimefighter when he leapt into action to chase two shoplifters. Santa Claus Dieter Thurn, 52, was in his grotto in a department store in Bremen when he saw the crooks filling their rucksacks with expensive cosmetics, reports Ananova.com.
Thurn flew after the pair and managed to hold them down until the police arrived.

Daniel Ingeborg, six, who was visiting the store with his mother, told local press: "Santa's so cool. He gives presents and fights crime. He's like Superman but better."

Raffled lobster wins freedom

A giant lobster has been saved from the cooking pot after persistent lobbying from restaurant diners. The Miami Herald reports that 50 year old monstroa is 37 inches long, and has 15-inch-long claws. He had been living in the lobster tank at a Massachusetts restaurant, and while half the customers wanted to eat him; the other half felt sorry for him.

Restaurant owner Fred Cunha decided to raffle at $1 a ticket to reach Monstroas retail price of $150, and let the winner decide his fate. Winner Claire Lupton returned Monstro to the ocean, saying that a lobster that big and old shouldn't end up on a dinner plate.

Armed robber foiled in Lego heist

Police in Florida are looking for a little girl who pulled a knife on a shop assistant as she tried to steal two boxes of Lego on Tuesday night. The girl, aged about seven or eight, hid the toys under her coat and tried to walk out the door.

A store employee was watching and approached the child, asking her to turn over the Lego blocks. Police say the little girl then opened her jacket and displayed a ten-inch carving knife.

The employee talked the girl into putting down the knife and the toys. The girl then rode away on her bicycle.

Thief leaves police vital tip-off

Criminal stupidity appears to be on the rise.Germany provides another example of illegal imbecility.

A careless burglar provided police with a crucial clue at a break-in when he sliced off the end of a finger on a broken window, Reuters reports. Police wasted no time in matching the piece of finger with existing prints of a 15-year-old from the town of Hildesheim. The youth initially denied breaking and entering, but confessed when police produced the digital remnant.

"We usually find fingerprints at the crime scene, but it's not every day that thieves leave the original there too," said a police spokesman. "I don't know if the fellow asked for it back afterwards."

South African court fines 'pregnant' man

A South African man has been fined $140 for taking a week off work, telling his employers he was pregnant. Charles Sibindana, 27, stole a certificate from a clinic during his pregnant girlfriend's checkup, the BBC reports. He then added his own details to the note, submitted it to his employers and took seven days off work, seemingly unaware that only women consult gynaecologists.

His employers became suspicious and investigated the matter. On passing sentence Magistrate Bruno Van Eeden warned Mr Sibindana "not to walk around faking sick letters from gynaecologists."

What Is The Cost Of Lasik Eye Surgery? Are You Worth It?

Lasik eye surgery is the most advanced laser procedure that can be performed on the eyes. It can correct several common eye defects such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. This eliminates the need to wear clunky spectacles or even contact lenses. Lasik eye surgery can give you greatly improved eyesight and even up to a 20/20 vision.

This procedure makes use of special laser that directly treats the cornea and corrects the abnormality.

First, the surgeon will slice off a thin flap in the cornea, and then use a special laser to reshape the cornea. The flap is then returned, and should heal in about an hour.

This procedure can be done all in the span of around 10 to 15 minutes per eye, and involves minimal pain or discomfort to the patient.

This quick and easy-to-do nature of this operation has naturally made this very popular, even among those who are normally reluctant to go under any kind of surgery.

There are now many Lasik eye surgery centers making this procedure easily available to everyone.

The cost of Lasik eye surgery can range anywhere from $500 to $5,500 per eye and the average cost is about $2000. The prices can vary depending on the region and the reputation of the surgeon performing the operation. The equipment that the center uses is also a factor. Those opting for custom Lasik should expect to pay $200 to $400 more.

It's important to be cautious of advertisements offering low-cost Lasik surgery. Surgeons advertising Lasik for less than $1000 per eye are probably of substandard quality or these offers actually contain many additional hidden fees. These can include things like consultation fees and essential follow-up care.

They might also require special requirements or are only applicable to certain circumstances. When all these hidden costs are added up, the overall price of these low cost operations might even surpass that of other Lasik eye surgeons, that openly includes these expenses in their evaluation.

There are things to consider when choosing a Lasik eye surgeon. Be sure to make sure to have all the necessary information regarding the surgeon performing the operation, the price of the operation and what this price covers. Be sure to make all the necessary inquires. This is especially true for those advertising discounted Lasik surgery.

Be sure to ask if there are any additional charges for further enhancement surgeries and follow-up care.

Ask how many follow up visits will be made. Centers only offering one or two are follow up visits or ask for an additional fee per visit are discouraged.

Any necessary medical enhancements should be covered for up to 1 year after the surgery. If not, be sure to be aware of any additional charges that are to be made.

Find out the cost of the medication needed. This includes painkillers, etc. Also special protective goggles or glasses might be needed as well.

If you are considering Lasik eye surgery it is important to remember to prioritize the safety of your eyes over the potential cost. Although minimal, there is a risk involved with undergoing any surgery. It is advisable to choose a reputable eye surgeon who's done at least 1000 successful Lasik eye surgeries, even if it might cost more, to minimize the risk of complications occurring.

Most Lasik eye center offer very reasonable payment plans, so that anyone can get Lasik surgery and pay for it in a way that works for them.

A Natural Cure for Cataract

A woman in her late fifties was beginning to develop cataracts. Small clouds were forming in the lenses of her eyes. Eye specialists told her that this was a sign of old age, and that the lenses would have to be surgically replaced by plastic ones after the cataracts were ripe in about a year.

But the woman decided to consult a teacher of the Bates Method instead, to see if this natural method could help. After several weeks of eye training she went back to her eye specialist for a check-up. The doctor could find no trace of cataract and wondered how he could have arrived at his earlier diagnosis. When she told him about the Bates training, he snapped: Nonsense! Cataracts never disappear!

After some further lessons her far-sightedness disappeared also.

This is an example of what happens to the millions of people who have practiced the method of doctor Bates, a New York eye specialist who also taught at several universities. It gets results with cataracts and most other types of poor vision. It helps you to see better at any age. It will work even if your parents wear glasses, or if you have worn glasses or lenses for years. Find out more at www.seeingwithoutglasses.com.

When eye doctors are confronted with the successes of the Bates Method and their own inability to help, they often claim that the eyes would have gotten better anyway, which they call a spontaneous remission. But the curious fact remains that such remissions occur hardly ever without the Bates Method.

To have good eyesight you need to know the facts:

All glasses and lenses weaken the eyes!
Most corrective surgery does the same, it only treats the symptoms!
Optical professionals know little or nothing about prevention or natural ways of improving the eyes!
The multi-billion dollar optical industry wants you to have poor eyesight because this increases sales!
The only person who is really interested in improving your eyesight is YOU !
The best way to get practical self-help advice is through a good book or by consulting a Bates instructor. See www.seeingwithoutglasses.com for details.

Myopia Or Short-Sightedness - A Common Problem Faced By Everyone

Myopia is a condition which is also known as short-sightedness and has been a problem area for many people. This kind of condition means that your capacity to see distant objects is not clear and appearing to be blurred. Your vision can be corrected by the use of glasses or contact lenses and also through laser eye surgery.

The eyesight gets blurred when the focus of the light is in front of the retina rather than on the retina. Some of the things that would irritate you are the blur images, headache and tired eyes. The symptoms of myopia may also vary from person to person. A doctor's guidance is must when such matters come into light.

It usually starts during your childhood, getting worse by the time you are in your teens. This occurs when your eye is greater than the optical length creating the blurred image. History of myopia in the family also causes myopia or short-sightedness among children. The children are more likely to develop such problems due to the hereditary. This kind of condition does not create any problems to your health, but some may develop retinal degeneration.

Though there are not many problems with people suffering with myopia but in the later on stages of your life there are chances of developing glaucoma and other eye disorders. With regular check up one can avoid severe damage to your eye. Some other problems which cause myopia are due to lack of vitamins, improper reading habits and the condition running in the family.

The common treatment for myopia or short-sightedness is the use of glasses or contact lenses. It can be worn by anyone from a two-year-old to a 80-year-old. Even though glasses may not be that trendy, people choose to wear contact lenses. You can also get surgery done which include LASIK (Laser in-situ keratomileusis), Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and Radial keratotomy depending upon your individual needs.

Ask Not What The Jewelry Industry Can Do For You

I just returned from the Jewelers' Circular Keystone (JCK) Show, the largest, most important jewelry trade event in the US.

Apart from those who sought me out because of my press release, not one jeweler who walked by my booth even raised the issue of my banner which screamed out: FAIR TRADE, ECO FRIENDLY JEWELRY NOW.

Typical, I think, was my conversation with a buyer who was a "major player." Her company is a house hold name. I asked one if she was interested Fair Trade and Eco friendly jewelry. Her look said, "Have you just arrived from the moon?"

She had not even heard of the concept. She gave me a wooden smile and proceeded on.

I tried to imagine not understanding the deep relationship between my life and the natural environment, or the impact of my purchasing decisions upon people around the world. Without these things to push up against, my work would be just about making money: a truly soulless endeavor.

How far, in the canyon of life, is my perspective from this woman's, and what would it take to create a bridge we could cross together?

Here's my confession. For weeks, I dreaded coming to this show, without being quite sure why. Then I realized that something brought back a feeling I had when I was in Haiti, a volunteer, twenty years ago, running an orphanage and working in Mother Theresa's homes for the dying.

Richard Hartnett, an American professor of Dentistry, trained me to help him run his mobile clinics. We carried two back packs: one filled with tools and another with the antiseptic fluids and water so that we could keep our tools clean between extractions. We went right into the slums surrounding Port au Prince.

Cavities in Haiti by and large were left to rot in people's mouths. Richard generally did the injections and I did the extractions: sixty people in two hours. After pulling thousands of teeth, I met someone who changed my life forever. It happened while I was gathering people for our clinic in the marketplace. All around, the composting food, the brazen rats and the open sewers were an assault on the senses.

"Blanc... blanc.. vini ici, Come here, foreign man." The stress of being a white guy amidst a sea of black skin, put me on edge. Always objectified. Always categorized. Never alone. A foreigner... Blanc, Blanc.

A hunched old woman with a walking stick approached. She was dressed in a light cotton dress that was torn on the sleeve- "Kennedy's" is what they called all those used clothes that arrived from the US in volleys of shipping containers. They were given away as aid that started with JFK's administration. Her mulatto skin sagged on her face, making deep lines like mysterious canyons. Her eyes, glittering like black diamonds, intense, looked up at me.

"Sac passe, cherie," I asked... What's going on?

Her neck craned up. She pointed to her mouth and began to part her thin pale lips.

I bent down and looked.

The right side of the inside of her mouth was gray. Instead of teeth, there was bone, just exposed skull, black, wet and decayed, like a corpse. I have bandaged cancers with worms in them, legs swollen up like tree trunks and seen the ravages of AIDS and TB. Yet on this day, I had to step away, feeling queasy and disoriented.

There was a large tree that allowed some privacy and ducking behind it, I began to shake. Then I broke open. I died in that moment.

In the end, we could do little for this woman other than give her some antibiotics and pain killers.

I knew she was so poor because I was so rich. What was my debt to my existence?

Over the next several weeks, I could not understand how all the extremely rich Haitians and Blancs seemed oblivious to the poverty that surrounded them. I had the same internal feelings coming into the JCK show. Behind the booth and walking around you are seeing just jewelry, not the slag piles. Not the extreme poverty at so many levels of mining and fabrication. Not the child labor, nor the factory conditions of those people in China. The same people who have profited by blood diamonds were at the show, rebranding themselves as ethical jewelers.

I remembered Mother Theresa talking about how the poorest of the poor, in countries such as Haiti, were rich in spirit.. In the developed world, people were rich but lived in spiritual poverty.

A woman walks by, the wife of a celebrity, with a 50 ct diamond ring. She is the jewelers' dream. All the high end stores have double digit growth from customers such as her. Yet I cannot help but feel she looks absolutely miserable.

About ninety percent of Haitians living in Haiti are malnourished, while we here in America are taking cholesterol pills.

I also am part of this tragedy, paying my $5000 just to sit here and absorb this spectacle. Tragic stories follow certain patterns. What story are we in? Do we need to tear our eyes out in order to see? Perhaps, we are in the third act of King Lear, in the storm of the internet, the falling dollar, the threat of China and India, terrorism...

Then let me be the Shakespearian fool, Sirrah! That is a role I am most comfortable with. Most of my life, I have been stepping off one cliff or another, the wanderings a pathos filled Puer Aeternus, with an ear to the Earth.

Listening, I remembered a dinner with a Native American Sundance Chief. I fed him elk I had stalked and hunted, carried on my back down an 11,000 foot mountain.

Together, eating the elk, we ate the mountain. We ate the sky and the rain and the grasses. The beauty of seasonal flow was in the energy of the meat. We gave thanks to our sister, the elk. It was medicine. Elk is always my first meal when I come back from shows.

We felt humble that our sister had offered her life up for us. When she was down, it was late fall and the temperature hovered near zero. I remember watching the starlight fade from her eyes and feeling my hands, warmed, in her blood as I pulled her heart out.

I asked myself, what is my debt to all existence? How can I be worthy of honoring the elk in the life I live now?

"There are two types of people in the world," the Chief said to me. "Those whose hearts are open, and those who's hearts are closed. The job of those whose hearts are open is simple: Help those whose hearts are closed to open their hearts."

For the elk, for my teachers in Haiti, and my Native mentors, I am committed to being a positive agent for change. I must remember his words and stay connected to the Whole in my heart so I can see from my heart.

My heart wonders if there has been such a gap in our industry for so long between appearance and reality that we can only see jewelry as commodity. Jewelry was once sacred in the ancient world. It was viewed as a talisman, even a signet to the divine, connecting one to the whole. Even now, my Native mentors teach how to work with the energies of gems to create healing and transformation.

Yet the circles have been broken for so long that we do not remember what it was like to live with deep love and reverence for the soul of our world. Plato said that the source of all knowledge was remembrance. We have to remember who we are and what our place is.

We have to remember that jewelry carries energy. It can connect us to the power and beauty of the natural world. Adornment is an essential part of human existence. We need beauty; beauty around us, to survive.

The Navajo have a prayer:

In beauty may I walk;
With beauty before me, may I walk;
With beauty above me, may I walk;
With beauty below me, may I walk;
With beauty all around me, may I walk;
In beauty, may my walk be finished;
In beauty, may my walk be finished.

Right now, those of us who are involved in Fair Trade and Socially Responsible business practice are trying to reconnect the circles that have been broken. We are concerned about green issues, and fair labor practices because our awakeness to the earth, and our connection to humanity demands greater integration into our life.

But for our passion to find its way into places like corporations where money is the bottom line, we must show that there is a market for our ideas. Right now, the "spiritual sparkle" of jewelry is mostly irrelevant to the trade.

Let the course be like pure water flowing down a mountain creek, finding its way through the rocks. The trajectory of Whole Foods, Patagonia or The Body Shop is a significant market. For those who wish to take this initiative, the huge gap between the symbolism of jewelry and the production of jewelry provides an opening. I know people who refuse to buy jewelry right now for ethical reasons and I am planning on making them my customers.

This customer base will grow as global warming and a host of other problems become flash points that drive consumers to shop their values. What was most wonderful for me at the show were not the prospects I got to help increase my business, though that was great.

Under the surface, the infrastructure to support this movement is growing. I spoke with many leaders, from Martin Rapaport, Allen Bell, Abe Sherman, Torry Hoover, Eric Braunwart, Toby Pomeroy, Eric Grossberg, Vicky Cunningham, Amanda Stark, Wade O. Watson, Sharee Coffee, Earl Allen, Demos Takoulas, Tom Cushman, Lourens Mare, -all of whom want to move these issues forward.

We're working to take responsibility. We want the lives lost through bloodshed and war, the ecosystems ravaged by runoff and poisoned water supplies, the workers unable to subsist, to have meaning and a voice. We want to help others in the industry, who are yet to view these issues as important, see the market and spiritual opportunity in this movement.

Let us all celebrate each others' work through support. We all need each other. We are all one circle. Let the tide raise all boats.
